Eastburn and Gray Attorney Helps to Preserve Second Piece of Bucks County Legal History in Two Years

Doylestown, PA – A judicial portrait of the Honorable Henry Wynkoop was recently gifted to the County of Bucks by the Northampton Township Historical Society (“NTHS”).

The NTHS was the previous owner of the original framed oil painting by renowned artist Rembrandt Peale, circa 1812. Judge Wynkoop, born in Northampton Township on March 2, 1737, served on the Court of Common Pleas of Bucks County from 1777 to 1789.  In addition to serving on the Court, he was a member of the Continental Congress, as well as a United States representative to the First United States Congress. The portrait of Judge Wynkoop will be displayed and enjoyed along with the other judicial portraits that grace the walls of the Bucks County Justice Center courtrooms.

Grace M. Deon, Esquire, a Northampton Township resident and pro bono counsel for the NTHS, served a key role in preserving this notable piece of Bucks County history. She collaborated with representatives from the NTHS, the Bucks County Historical Society (“BCHS”) and the County to complete the transfer of ownership to the County.

In 2016, during her tenure as President to the Bucks County Bar Association (“BCBA”), Ms. Deon was also a critical figure in preserving another important piece of Bucks County legal history. She assembled a team of volunteer craftsman to refurbish a fountain that had been previously located on the grounds of the 1812 Bucks County Courthouse. It took six months and dozens of hours but the fountain now graces the terrace of the Bucks County Bar Association for others in the community to enjoy.

“Safeguarding historic structures in our community fosters civic pride, tourism, economic development, neighborhood beautification and even sustainability when a refurbishment is also eco-friendly,” said Grace M. Deon, Esq. “Equally important is the conservation of historic artifacts that capture the culture and aesthetics of a time gone by.”

Ms. Deon is a shareholder and member of Eastburn and Gray’s management committee. She spends a considerable amount of her free time engaged in a host of philanthropic endeavors, including raising funds for local youth programs that educate children about art and historic preservation and appreciation. Her professional legal practice focuses on Employment, Commercial and Special Education litigation. She previously served as the President of the Bucks County Bar Association.

On Thursday, December 6, 2018, there will be an unveiling ceremony of Judge Wynkoop’s portrait in the Ceremonial Court Room of the Bucks County Justice Center.  The public is welcome to attend this momentous occasion. For additional information, please feel free to contact the Bucks County Bar Association by phone, (215) 348-9413.
