Nominations for Plain English Committee Clarity Awards

The Plain English Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association has been charged with promoting the use of plain English in the law to bridge the gap between the legal profession and the general public.

One of the avenues the committee has chosen to accomplish this task is to award the use of plain language in legal writing by recognizing examples of clear legal writing in documents.  The committee will present the Clarity Awards during the Annual Meeting of the Pennsylvania Bar Association held in Hershey, May 10, 2018.  It is hoped that the publication of these examples of plain English in legal writing will encourage other lawyers to write in plain language thereby improving public opinion regarding lawyers.

The committee is soliciting nominees who best exhibit and promote the use of plain English in their legal writing and would greatly appreciate your cooperation in relaying this information to your members either through an upcoming legal journal, meeting, or mailing.  For your convenience we have enclosed a copy of the Clarity Award nomination form.  Feel free to publish this form or to make copies as necessary.  Please note that the deadline for submission of nominations is March 29, 2018.
