Salzer Presents on “Protection from Abuse” at PBA Family Law Summer Meeting

Doylestown, PA –  Robert J. Salzer of Williams Family Law was a featured presenter at the Pennsylvania Bar Association Family Law Section 2021 Summer Meeting July 15-16, 2021, which was held live via webcast. Salzer participated in an enactment of a Protection from Abuse (PFA) case in “PFA in Real Time: from Interview to Courtroom.”

The presentation followed Geracia v. Brown, a domestic violence case brought by a wife who had recently filed for divorce. The defendant husband had on several occasions exhibited erratic and violent behavior toward the woman and their three-year-old child. In the session, Salzer served as attorney for the victim while colleagues represented the perpetrator and child. Among the topics the attorneys discussed were:

  • In a “he-said, she-said” situation, does being intoxicated influence the plaintiff’s credibility?
  • Is “reasonable fear of imminent bodily injury” objective or subjective?
  • In the age of social media, what constitutes stalking?

The session covered everything from client counseling to trial preparation and evidentiary issues, law enforcement and child protective services, impact on divorce and custody proceedings, potential criminal charges, firearms restrictions, mutual violence/threats/stalking, addiction issues, and contempt. Panelists included Honorable Joseph C. Adams of the York County Court of Common Pleas and attorneys Elizabeth J. Fineman, Christine Gale and Brian C. Vertz.
